Hello:
My name is Bryan Byrd. I live in the United States of America, in the state of Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C., our national capital. During a cross-Thailand biking tour of 1350 miles, to benefit a Thai charity, I visited the Thapput Wittaya School on December 15, 2004, and was treated to a delicious lunch with many of the students in the school dining area. We were late eating, so I was given some ice cream before finishing lunch. Someone found out I loved ice cream, and the ice cream cart was going to close. Ummm, it all was very good. Thank you! I met many delightful students and we had brief discussions about their studies and personal details. Weena Kanadpon took us to her English class, and my son stood up front with me and talked with the students. Weena has a picture of that event on her blog site, us bikers in our yellow jerseys, looking like Lance Armstrong (haha). After awhile, we left and biked on to Phang Nga, where we spent the night before completing the journey in Phuket, one week before the tsunami. I left Thailand on December 28, 2004. I will always remember the friendly and smiling faces of the students of Thapput Wittaya School. Try to get Weena to smile more, please.

My son is now organizing the 3rd Annual Tour de Thailand, beginning the first of December, to again benefit the Max Foundation to help Leukemia victims in Thailand. I will not be riding this year, but hope to visit Thailand and ride the tour again in late 2006. If I do, I will look forward to visiting your school again, and seeing Weena. Weena is a wonderful person, and all of her students and associates can be proud of her and learn from her. She is so SMART!

I encourage all of Weena's students and blog visitors to learn English, so you can read this, :-) and so you can travel throughout the world and be able to understand what is around you, even in countries where the native language is not English. Most business is done in English, and it is a very common second language. It will give you choices to expand your life and opportunities you will not have if you speak only Thai. I am sure you will be able to get better jobs, and therefore earn more money, which provides all kinds of benefits for you and your family. Just realize: Much of the Internet is in English; what a fabulous resource, and to be able to read most of it is fabulous.
See some of you next year. Good luck in life and in your studies.

Hello again to the fine English students of Thapput Wittaya school. Weena said she didn’t mind me posting to her fabulous blog, so I have been thinking of you while I was at the gym working out, and walking around my community afterward. It was a nice day here. The sky was clear, and the temperatures were as high as 50 degrees Fahrenheit. What temperature is that in Centigrade? It is getting cool here, freezing overnight. Winter will be here in one month. Soon we will see snow.

It was dark and cool on my walk after exercising, and a beautiful moon was coming up over the horizon. What phase was the moon in? Is it the same as in Thailand? The time here is 9:52 P.M., on Saturday. What time is that in your country, and what day? Do you know how to find out? It is on the Internet, I know that. Will it be in Thai? I do not know, but it is in English. And that is just one of the reasons why you are very smart to be learning English as a second language. All the world will be available to you.

If I were to post like many of you did, I would list my hobbies. Do you know them, and the English word for them? My hobbies are biking (you know that), tennis, golf, running, windsurfing, sailing, swimming, reading, writing, traveling, listening to music, cooking, repairing houses for friends and myself, chasing girls, fixing cars, investing, exercising, ping pong. I can do anything, so I may have left something out.

Your assignment last week, class, was to get Weena to smile. Did you get a good grade in that project? Do you as a class make her happy with her work? She has devoted her life to teaching you English so you will prosper in your life. Did she do the right thing? I need a good report from her on your progress.

Before I go back to working on my book, one more thing about the Internet. It will break down the boundaries of the countries that embrace and use it, and the wealth that has been centered in a few countries like the US will be spread over those other countries. The Internet brings commerce to its users, and you can prosper in industries not native to our country. So, learn your English!

The Internet will also spread freedom throughout the world. Our President, George W. Bush, is in your area working with Southeast Asia countries to liberalize free trade, and while he is in China, he went to a Christian church, maybe trying to help establish freedom of religion. He also took a bike ride with some Chinese athletes. He is a great man, and as he spreads freedom, there will be less war. Free people have less to fight about. English will give you more freedom. You will have less to worry about. Learn your studies well. You will be glad you did. Now is the time. Do not waste a minute.

It is now 10:12 P.M. here, and by looking on the Internet, I see it is 9:12 A.M. on Sunday, Nov 20, and it is 81 degrees F, or 21 degrees C, in Phuket, mostly cloudy, with thunderstorms expected. So, it’s going to rain, is it?

More later. Do what you need to do to make sure you have a good week. I hope you will. Tell Weena to write me, and you may, also.

Aloha BB!

Many thankssssssss for your kind comments. I've appreciated them a great deal.
How has Winter treated you over there? We've had rain quite often here, and sunshine also. Winter in Thailand is now covering the northern part and that causes a bit cool in the south at night.
Have a great Thanksgiving, Bryan.
Love, W.
